Caring for your RichCraft Product

Furniture

Finish: Richard likes to keep his wood looking and feeling as natural as possible, which is why we use a light, oil or wax finishes that is non-toxic and easy to look after. Oils and waxes can take up to four weeks to harden fully and hence, extra care should be taken in the first few weeks after delivery prior to cleaning surfaces (see below). Occasionally we stain furniture stains and varnishes dry reasonably quickly. When exposed to sunlight they can fade overtime so touch ups are required.

Metal: Richard likes to use metal in his furniture products in which case it will be either have Powder Coated or Polished. Powder coated furniture is robust but if knocked the paint can chip. If it’s expose to long periods of sunshine the colour might alter. Any polished metal furniture has been lacquered to maintain its shine. Sometimes metal exposed to air or damp weather can oxidise in which case polish or protect more robustly (for example a cover for outside seating)

Care: Wooden furniture might expand and shrink if exposed to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Take care not to store or place your furniture anywhere with excessive changes in temperature - such as near radiators and windows. Richard recommends placing beverages and plates on coasters and mats. Hot items should not be placed on wooden surfaces to avoid leaving rings ingrained in the wood.

Cleaning: Clean on a regular basis wipe the surface with a damp cloth before removing any moisture with a dry cloth. Wipe off anything that will stain straight away, e.g. red wine, balsamic vinegar, oil, tea, coffee or alcohol. In the event of severe spillages and stains the surface can be lightly re-sanded and re-oiled or waxed - please contact to Richard or a professional furniture restorer before doing so.

Lighting

Richard’s lighting collection uses a variety of naturally treated timbers – ash, oak and London Plane – that are finished with a Wax or Oil. This provides an easy-to-care-for durable finish which doesn’t compromise the natural beauty of the wood.

Dusting your light regularly and with a light feather duster should keep your light looking clean, otherwise wipe with a damp cloth and remove any moisture with a dry cloth. More beeswax or oil can be applied if necessary – following the supplier’s instructions.

Due to the character of handcrafted natural products, all dimensions are approximate. Wood colour may slightly vary.
